Tesla has announced its plans to halt a significant portion of production at its sole European factory due to supply chain issues resulting from Red Sea attacks.
The automobile manufacturer stated that production at its substantial factory near Berlin would be paused for two weeks, starting from January 29. These actions were taken because attacks on ships along a vital trade route disrupted component delivery schedules.
Tesla's response to media inquiries regarding this issue has not been recorded.
The Grünheide factory has the capacity to build 375,000 cars annually for customers across Europe. Tesla has planned to fully resume production on February 12, according to reports.
In recent weeks, Houthi militants, based in Yemen, increased attacks on ships navigating the Red Sea. They justify their attacks as retaliation for Israel's war against Hamas in Gaza.
As a result, six of the world's ten largest shipping companies, namely Maersk, MSC, Hapag-Lloyd, CMA CGM, ZIM, and ONE, have largely or entirely avoided the Red Sea. The carriers have been compelled to reroute many ships around South Africa's Cape of Good Hope, resulting in delays nearly three weeks long.
