Liverpool's coach, Jürgen Klopp, has extended an invitation to Sven-Göran Eriksson to visit Anfield, following the former England manager's disclosure of a terminal cancer diagnosis that ruled out his dream of ever coaching Liverpool.
Klopp extended the invite to Eriksson at Anfield after the erstwhile England manager made public his terminal cancer diagnosis, stating the health condition would hinder his ambition of ever coaching Liverpool.
"An invitation from us with all our hearts is extended for you to visit here," Klopp shared with Sky Sports. “You are welcome in my office, you can even lead a session if you wish, there's no obstacle.
"This essentially entails coaching and managing... So, here we are, with our arms open wide, come let's enjoy splendid hours together," he concluded.
Eriksson, renowned better for his stint as the head coach of England, made the disclosure at the onset of the month that he has terminal cancer with a rough estimation of "about a year" of life remaining.
CNN had prior knowledge from a close source to the 75-year-old man that pancreatic cancer was the diagnosed disease.
In his career, Eriksson managed a variety of clubs, including Manchester City, Lazio, and Roma, but never Liverpool. "My father is still alive and continues to support Liverpool, and so do I, I always have," he confessed in an interview with Sky. "I wanted my entire life to be the Liverpool coach, and that surely won't occur."
Eriksson was the driving force behind what is popularly known as England's "Golden Generation" and worked with star players including David Beckham, Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, and Rio Ferdinand across two World Cup tournaments and a European Championship.
Eriksson became the first foreign manager to lead the English team. Under Eriksson's management (at the 2004 European Championships and the 2006 World Cup), England deux fois suffered defeat by Portugal in penalty kicks, both times in the quarterfinals.
His lengthy managerial career, spanning over four decades, also saw him coaching in China, Mexico, and the Philippines.
