- NASA has publicly announced that there's no substantiated evidence of drug use at SpaceX, helmed by Elon Musk.
- This declaration comes in response to a Wall Street Journal article speculating Musk's personal drug use.
- In retaliation to the report, Musk clarified that numerous unexpected tests over the years failed to reveal any proof of illicit drug intake.
In an official communication to Bloomberg, NASA stated, "There is no indication that SpaceX has failed to adhere to regulations regarding a drug- and alcohol-free workforce. We anticipate all our commercial collaborators to fulfill every safety requirement at the workplace in the course of their missions and services rendered to the American people."
NASA was unreachable for immediate comments outside regular operational timings when Business Insider solicited a response.
The clarification from NASA ensued a Wall Street Journal piece that alleged Musk's consumption of unlawful substances like LSD, cocaine, ecstasy, and magic mushrooms. The Journal further speculated that certain SpaceX executives were concerned that Musk might have been under the influence of drugs during a company-wide meeting in 2017.
Musk, however, refuted these allegations by stating that in years of random testing, there were "not even trace quantities" of drugs detected in his system. In response to the controversy that arose after he was seen consuming marijuana on a podcast with Joe Rogan, Musk agreed to undergo these tests at NASA's request.
Earlier this week, rumors indicating a possible risk to Musk's government security clearance following these allegations had been circulating.
Fox Business' correspondent Charles Gasparino reported that reliable insiders have intimated that "Musk's security clearance will undergo review by @DeptofDefense in the aftermath of these drug use allegations."
When Business Insider reached out for a comment from Musk's representatives outside regular business hours, they did not receive an immediate response.
