"Russia Unleashes New Barrage of Missiles and Drones Against Ukraine: An Analytical Overview"
Russia Launches Fresh Barrage of Missiles and Drones at Ukraine In an escalating show of military power, Russia launched yet another intensive barrage of missiles and drones against Ukraine this Saturday. This marks the fourth such assault since December 29th, amidst rising concerns that Moscow may be aiming to overpower Ukraine's air defence capabilities. Russia’s onslaught, according to Ukraine's Air Force, comprised 40 attack weapons, ranging from cruise missiles, aeroballistic, ballistic, aerial, anti-aircraft, and unmanned aerial attack vehicles. A testament to Ukraine's robust defence mechanism, eight missiles were successfully intercepted and brought down by its air force. Furthermore, they reported that "over 20 launched air attack weapons did not reach their targets due to extensive electronic warfare countermeasures." Air raid alerts were activated and defences spun into action across the nation, with hits registered in various regions, including the Northern Ukrainian city of Chernihiv and Dnipro in the east. In Chernihiv, missile fragments caused damage to unoccupied civilian housing, according to police. "We saw the shrapnel from enemy missile wreak havoc in a private residential area in Chernihiv. Luckily, no casualties were reported," stated local police on Telegram. The area had already been damaged earlier, so there were no civilian casualties, added the local mayor. Dnipro also witnessed attacks, as confirmed by Serhii Lysak, the head of the military administration in the Dnipropetrovsk region. He stated, "We're currently assessing the damage from the strikes. However, our top priority remains the safety of our people. Thankfully, everyone seems to be safe for now," Lysak shared on Telegram. Saturday's attacks are the largest since Russia initiated heavy bombings across the country on December 29th. Shifting Tactics Analysts suggest that Russia's recent missile attack aims to overrun Ukraine's limited anti-missile defence. In a previous assault on January 7th, Ukraine could only halt 18 out of 59 launched missiles. The Russian military has also been adopting novel tactics as part of its air campaign, including painting its Iranian-manufactured drones black to blend in against the night sky. A Ukrainian unit told CNN that another tactic involves moving the exhausts of drone engines from the back to the front as a measure to confuse the anti-aircraft batteries using thermal sights. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his concerns on Friday during a press conference with UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sun…
