U.S. President Joe Biden confirmed that the strikes on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen are “a direct response to unprecedented Houthi assaults on international maritime vessels in the Red Sea.”.
In a statement released on Thursday, the president stated that under his direction "American military forces, along with the U.K. and support from Australia, Bahrain, Canada, and the Netherlands, successfully carried out attacks on various targets in Yemen used by the Houthi rebels to endanger the freedom of navigation along one of the world's most vital waterways".
